Naples is one of the most fascinating Italian cities, full of contradictions but, at the same time, wonders: the Duomo of San Gennaro, housing the relics of the saint patron of the city, where the ornate Cappella San Gennaro holds his head, within a silver-gilt bust, and phials of his congealed blood, which miraculously liquefies three times a year (on the first Sunday in May, 19 Sep and 16 Dec; according to the tradition, if the blood should fail to liquefy, the city will have bad luck); Piazza del Plebiscito; the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, housing one of the world's most important archaeological museums; Castel Nuovo (also known as the Maschio Angioino), an Angevin fortress where the castle was the main royal residence and part of the building houses the Museo Civico; the Quartieri Spagnoli (the Spanish Quarter), one of the city's most densely populated areas, it was named after the Spanish troops who laid out its grid of narrow streets in the XVII century; the Galleria Umberto I, with its handsome arcades built in 1887 and rebuilt after World War II; the Museo di Capodimonte, housed by the Palazzo Reale di Capodimonte, it shows magnificient collections of Italian paintings (included are works by Titian, Botticelli, Raphael and Perugino).

Naples can offer more and more to its visitors; you can't miss Naples if you are visiting Middle-Southern Italy.
